DBT Skills for Managing Sensory Needs in BDSM

Join Lady Umbra for an engaging workshop designed for both neurodivergent individuals and
neurotypical partners who seek to understand and support their sensory processing needs. This session will equip participants with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to identify and manage these needs effectively. We will begin with an introduction to sensory processing and its significant impact on interpersonal dynamics. Participants will learn to create their own sensory profiles, exploring various modalities and engaging in self-assessments to understand personal sensory preferences. The workshop will delve into hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity, providing practical DBT skills tailored for neurodivergent experiences, such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation. We’ll also address sensory overload and develop actionable plans for effective management. By the end of the workshop, attendees will create a personalized sensory toolkit that incorporates learned DBT strategies, enhancing their relationships and ensuring fulfilling experiences in BDSM. Join Lady Umbra for this insightful journey into understanding and managing sensory needs!

Presenter: Lady Umbra

Lady Umbra, a queer, polyamorous Leatherwoman hailing from the heart of the Canadian prairies in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She's like a whirlwind of creativity and spontaneity, a kaleidoscope of ideas and energy—always in motion, always on the edge of something new, her ADHD adding splashes of vibrant chaos to her life and the things she pursues. Don't let her petite stature fool you—Lady Umbra embraces her fierce side with a fury for sadistic play. Whether she's dancing with precision while wielding her whips or exploring the depths of impact, needles, knives, boots, cigars, and humiliation play, her enthusiasm shines through every experience. Lady Umbra's true passion lies in education and community building. She has been honored with the 2017 Western Canada Power Exchange and 2018 International Power Exchange Titles, was the 2022 Rocky Mountain Person of Leather Head Judge and served as a Judge for both the 2019 International Person of Leather and 2019 Western Canada Bootblack Contests. Her contributions to the community were acknowledged with the prestigious 2019 Pantheon of Leather (Canadian) Award. Yet, amidst these honors, she cherishes the connections established and the personal growth attained. Currently, she is the Producer of Pandemonium in the Prairies Conference which started in 2019 with some friends, a labor of love aimed at bringing the community together to learn, connect, and fucking celebrate our common interest in kink. In her personal life, she works as a professional in the mental health field and is completing her certification in DBT. Outside of work, she finds solace and joy in the creative realms of painting, leatherwork, jewelry making, and woodworking. Most importantly, she treasures the moments spent with her beloved fur babies, Lola, her long-haired chihuahua, and Jack (lovingly nicknamed Jackass), her Pug-mix, lavishing them with endless affection and care.
